Our inhouse iconographer cuts the wood to size and prepares it with 12 layers of gesso before sanding it down thoroughly and drawing the image of the desired saint. In this case, the order was for an icon of St. Genevieve of Paris. After drawing the image, the painting process begins, with several layers from dark to light. Gold leaf is used to illuminate the background. According to Georgian style, jewels, glass, ceramic and metal embelishments are added over the gold leaf, along with ornate patterns. Parts of the halo are painted heavily to make the patterns stick out from the board, giving the painting an almost 3D relief effect.
If you would like to order an icon of this kind, please fill out the fields below to specify the saint, the language of the inscription, and the size of the icon.
